1st Grade Success!

Another school year is done and Peyton had an great year in first grade. His reading and writing improved immensley just in one school year.  Mrs. Hayes was awesome, we will really miss her.  She was the perfect balance of stern and sweet.  I just got his last report card in the mail yesterday and we are so proud of him. He met every single standard as well as scoring well above the standards.  He had perfect attendance, not missing a single day and never was tardy.  We were lucky this winter health wise. Mrs Hayes' last comments were: "It was been a pleasure teaching Peyton this year.  He is very expressive and willing to share and relate to whatever it is that we are reading about or learning.  Keep him reading fiction and non-fiction everyday.  Have a fun filled summer! Take some great hikes and go camping."

I hope to keep him busy with some home "summer school" so he doesn't lose his academic momentum in the next couple months.  I ordered the two work books that his 2nd grade teacher suggested for over the summer and I'm making some flash cards with the 2nd grade sight words/vocab/spelling words that she suggested that we will work on daily.  I've also challenged Peyton to see how many chapter books he can get under his belt for the summer which he is excited about.  My competitive boy...

He looks so much older, a little taller and in need of a haircut!

Kate was awesome and picked Peyton up on the last day which was a half day and took him, Ethan and a couple girls from their class to Red Robin for lunch.

Father's Day 2014

I can't say enough about B as a father.  He always puts the kids first and sacrifices anything he's able to give them the best.  He's always there for them...loving but stern and I couldn't ask for a better person to parent with.
This Father's Day, the kids and I got up and made Daddy breakfast, gave him his gift (a beard grooming kit and he got a new lawn mower last week), then we headed to church.  After church, B and his brother took their dad out to lunch at Fire on the Mountain.  Then we headed out to my sister's house to have dinner with my dad.

Just some cute pics of Liv

B took Peyton and Olivia to cousin Mario's high school graduation for Benson (congrats Mar!) and Aunt Marcia had Liv's hair done SO stinking cute, I couldn't even handle it.

I can't even stand it, she's so cute.

1st grade plays

Peyton had his end-of-the year first grade play last week and he did great! He played a rapping donkey in a play called the Brementown Rappers.  It's hilarious because when I had any sort of performance or play growing up, I was sick with anxiety and nervousness.  It is no big deal to him.  He learned his lines no problem and projected his voice like a champ.  I wish I had the confidence this kid has.
Here's the video of his skit along with a few pictures

2014 Farm Baseball Season

This baseball season came and went so fast.  B was an assistant coach at the start of the season but ended up taking over the head coaching position mid-season.  He really stepped up and was at times completely out of his comfort zone (being as shy as he is).  He does so well with kids and has SO much patience.  It was a lot of work but I think he really enjoyed it.
This season we got pretty lucky with the weather.  There was only one game where it completely down poured.  They never rained the games out because of the new field they have at Reynolds which is mostly turf.  Baseball definitely is not Peyton's first love, but he had fun playing.  We are working on his hitting...we think he may be batting on the wrong side!  He started out hitting left in his first year of t-ball (he does absolutely everything left-handed) and for some reason his coach switched him thinking he was a right-handed batter.  It always looked awkward for him on the right side but he just adjusted to it.  Now he can hit on both sides, but he seems more natural on the left, but says it feels awkward.  We may invest in a private hitting coach so we can figure it out before next season.  Mid-season they started having the kids pitch the last 2 innings of the games.  Pitching is Peyton's niche.  He loved it so much and he's a really good left-handed pitcher.  It was so fun watching him get his first strike out! I was a softball pitcher for years so it's really fun watching him do something I enjoyed.

Here is a video of his first time pitching and a few pics of his 2nd to last game and his end of the year banquet.  I'm so mad because none of my pictures I took at the banquet were in focus, I'm not sure what was up with my camera.  So I only have a couple that were halfway in focus.  Grrr..

Drives me nuts that the pictures didn't turn out!

Trampoline

A few weeks ago B finally had a free dry weekend to set up the kids' trampoline they got for their birthday.  They (and ME!)  have been having so much fun jumping.

It took B a good 2-3 hours to set it up..it was tedious.
