1st non-errand outing

Yesterday I ventured out with both kids to the Children's Museum.  I carried Olivia in my front carrier and it was a success!  It was nice to get out of the house and for Peyton to do something fun.  I feel bad because I  haven't been taking him out to do fun stuff like usual since Olivia's been born.  I've taken him to 24-hour fitness with me and he's played in the kids club while I work out a couple times which he loves.  And he gets some indoor exercise since we've had such lovely rainy weather lately.  I'm hoping to get out much more, especially if the weather ever improves.  The museum was SO busy, but he still ran around and had a blast.  They had a lot of new areas to play in from the last time we were there and the Curious George display too.

Tried to get Olivia in the picture too in the Bjorn, no such luck..

Pictures from our week

Olivia loves her bath now.  It calms her down in the evening when she's fussy.

Peyton had his first sleepover (I can't believe it took 4 years!) at Grammy and Papa Springer's house.  He had his bag all packed and really didn't want his picture taken.

He finally obliged.

2-month update on Olivia next week, crazy!

Adjusting to two

B went back to work last Thursday and I'm not going to lie, two has been a challenge for me.  I'm trying really hard to keep her on a schedule and when that fails I feel like I'm losing my mind.  I'm a perfectionist in most ways and strive for routine.  Peyton himself can be a challenge and he tests me every day.  He knows if I'm busy with the baby that he can push my buttons and get away with things he wouldn't normally.  The lack of sleep makes it hard too. I can't wait for her to start sleeping longer!
Also, I've had some delayed grief with my mom passing away.  I think being pregnant distracted me some and after we were settled in at home with Olivia, it hit me pretty hard that she really is gone.  When I'm frustrated with my day, the first person I think of is her and I just lose it.  I no longer have her to call or up and leave the house to visit anymore.  I really miss her.
Olivia is 6 weeks old today, which is hard to believe!  I'm hoping things get easier soon and I'm sure they will. I am completely in love with both my kids and I'm so thankful for them.

Any advice from my blog readers with 2+ kids is welcomed with open ears! Ha..

Olivia update

Olivia is about 5 1/2 weeks now.  In the last couple of days we've noticed a little change.  She's more fussy and quick to wake up...I had a feeling her mellow-ness wouldn't last long, it seemed a little too good to be true anyway.  :)  Not to say that she is a difficult baby.  She's been a little sniffly, I think she might have caught the cold that Peyton and I have right now.  Hopefully that has something to do with her fussiness.  Here's what our baby girl is up to lately:

*Sleep: She's up once or twice during the night, going anywhere from 3-6 hours in between feedings.  She takes 2-3 naps during the day.  We try to have all her naps in her crib so she gets accustomed to napping in her room.  Although, if we're out and about she'll sleep in her car seat, and sometimes I just love to hold her at home for a bit while she sleeps.  There's something so calming about holding a warm, sleeping baby on my chest!

*Eating:  She is eating 3-4 oz at a time about every 3-4 hours during the day.  She takes forever to eat.  After about an ounce, she's out like a light and it's hard to keep her awake to finish. (Kinda frustrating in the middle of the night!) It seems like Peyton used to suck down his bottle in no time and was eating more than 4 oz at a time at this age, but honestly I can't remember.  (I wish I would have blogged when he was a newborn so I could compare! :( )  She looks like she's gaining weight and is grown out of her newborn clothes so I'm not too worried about it.  I am ready for her to start eating more so she sleeeeeps longer!! :)

*I think she's on a pretty good schedule.  She pretty consistently follows an eat, awake-time, sleep routine.  She's getting stronger and has pretty good neck control.  At right about 5 weeks she started smiling! When she's got a full belly is when she smiles the most.  I still haven't caught a good smile on camera...working on that!

Got the tail-end of that smile!

Tummy time

I have a feeling once she masters her thumb, the binky will be out the window.  She's not a big fan of it anyway.  Dang, I thought I'd escape another thumb sucker!

Buggin'

The other day Peyton caught a fruit fly and a lady bug in his bug vacuum! He was pretty excited.  The vacuum is pretty slick...after you suck it up, you trap it in the canister and there's a magnifying glass on the vacuum so he can get a close look at the critters he catches.

58th

My Grandma Prazeau just got back in to town from her annual trip to Maui and stayed with my dad over the weekend before heading home to Joseph, Oregon.  She was dying to get her 93-year-old-hands on her 58th great grandchild!  Isn't that number completely crazy!?
I forgot my camera so I just have pics from my phone... :(

Surgery Day

Finally Peyton's tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy is OVER!  Last week I was so stressed and nervous about this surgery.  He was ready to get it over with too, but I don't think he really knew what was going to happen.  He was in good spirits when we got there and in REALLY good spirits once they gave him his "silly juice" (Versed and Tylenol) to relax him in presurgery.  It was pretty hilarious to see him in his drunken stupor.  He would just look at us with his half-open eyes and giggle.  He said that he was the doctor and to quit talking to him because he was trying to concentrate.  It was a quick procedure and when he was in recovery they came and got me.  He was just waking up when I walked in and freaking out.  The nurses had to hold him down and eventually had me sit in a rocking chair with him and hold him.  It was so sad to see him like this and it was like he was my little baby again, rocking him to soothe him.  He was so confused and realized he had an IV and all this other stuff attached to him and didn't like it one bit!  They finally gave him some pain meds in his IV and he calmed down a bit.  He wasn't going to get back on the stretcher, so I had them get B to come and carry him back up to Peds short stay.  We got him to drink a little juice as his throat still had some local anesthetic.  We just sat with him and watched cartoons for a while.  After the anesthetic wore off, he refused liquids, popsicles, jello, you name it.  He wouldn't even swallow his spit.  After a few hours of him resting and us trying to coax him to drink, the nurses told us that if he didn't start taking fluids, he couldn't get his IV out and therefore would have to stay the night.  I took him out in the hallway and we walked around for a bit, and he played in the playroom for a while, hoping to perk him up a bit.  Luckily after a while he took one sip and they paged the surgeon to see if that would be enough to be discharged.  He said he could go home, but he HAD to sip some fluids every 10 minutes when he got home, and pee, or else to call and he would have to come back in to the hospital.  B and I weren't convinced that this would happen, but figured we would try.  About an hour after we got home, Peyt perked up and was asking for something to eat!  He ate some yogurt, applesauce, water, and a popsicle!  He crashed for the night and the next day was pretty much back to his normal self.  Today, he woke up a little more sore than yesterday, but after some medicine, he's doing pretty well.  I'm glad he's bouncing back and so glad it's over with!  Here's some pictures I took on my phone...

One Month Young

Wow, tomorrow Olivia is one month old!  Our babygirl is adjusting well to the world.  Here's what's happening with Olivia at one month:

*Eating~Last week I switched her to formula.  I stopped producing enough milk to get her through the day, which is exactly what happened with Peyton at the same age.  My sisters said this happened to them too, it must just run in the family.  She's adjusted pretty well to the formula.  She's eating about 3 oz at a time.  However, we struggle to keep her awake to finish a feeding!

*Sleep~The last couple of weeks she has been up every 2-3 hours during the night to eat which has been exhausting.  However, last night we moved her from our bedroom into her crib in her room and she went 5 hours and then 4 hours between feedings!  I'm really hoping we'll be lucky again and have a baby sleeping through the night soon.  Peyt started sleeping through the night at 7 weeks.

*She's a lot more alert and awake during the day and is focusing on our faces a lot more.  She loves Peyton, she'll turn her head toward him whenever he's talking.  She's had a few smiles that aren't gas-induced, or when she's sleeping which I love to see!

*Olivia is a pretty mellow baby, she really doesn't cry that often, only if she's hungry or cold (especially after her bath--oooh boy, she's not a fan of the bath still).  When she wakes up during the night, she goes down pretty quickly after she eats.  I'm hoping we can escape colic-free.  She occasionally will take a binky, but can go a day or two without it.  She's consoled pretty easily with just snuggles and us holding her on our chests.

*Peyton is doing SO much better.  He loves to hold his sister and is constantly giving her loves and kisses.
