"A New Year's Resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or the reforming of a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous." -Wikipedia
When thinking about what my 2009 New Years resolution would be, I wanted it to be something that not only concerned me, but also my family. My life is a constant state of busy-ness. I have come to realize that I need to slow down and enjoy the present. I'm either dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. I honestly can't believe I'm 28 years old. I don't know what happened to my 25, 26, or my 27th year. (Well I do know. I had a child and you know what they say about time flying once you have kids.) A vague, overall resolution for me that I am going to try to keep in the back of my mind is to slow down, relax, and enjoy what's happening presently in my life. So onto my specific resolutions. The first one is the main one and the one that I'm hoping to stay completely committed to.
1. Go to church every Sunday I am not at work. I have really lame excuses for not going to church--I'm exhausted from working until midnight the night before, I have too much to do around the house, etc. I need to make this a habit and a time for me to set time aside for God. This is also important to me in regards to Peyton. I want him to have a foundation of Christianity that will reflect in him and in his walk of life. I also think this will help me to slow down, quit worrying about EVERYTHING, and put trust into God that he will protect and provide everything my family needs.
2. Get back into shape! Ugh, this has been a huge burr in my side ever since I became a mom. Not because I gained a ton of weight during my pregnancy or that I'm overweight, but I need some toning up big time. I have literally no time to get an honest-to-goodness hard work out in. This is so hard for me after being an athlete my whole life and not knowing anything but being in good enough shape to sprint up and down the basketball court for 40 minutes no sweat. I will try my best to get workouts in at home and get to the gym on my days off; however, this will still be a hard one to keep up with my schedule.
3. Organization/getting the house the way we want it. This is another one that's always on my to-do-list. I try hard, but need to try harder. I think my issue is trying to do everything at once. I might just make a monthly list of small tasks I would like to accomplish around the house.
So that's it. Nothing impossible, all attainable. Here's to a great 2009!
Happy New Years everyone!
