3-year Appointment

So after last year's appointment, I was a bit nervous about how Peyt would do at his 3-year appointment.  During the drive in, he went back and forth between saying "Dr. Bob's nice, he look in my ears, my mouth, and talk to me" to "Just wanna go back home Mom."  As soon as we got inside he started to panic and said over and over that he wanted to go home.  We got in the exam room and it just got worse, he was freaking out saying he "didn't want to lay down" (he knows the nurse lays him down for shots).  Luckily he didn't have to have any shots so that calmed him down a little.  Once Dr. Heffernan got into the exam room he went between chatting away to crying about not wanting to lay down and wanting to go home.  He finally calmed down and was okay with Dr. Bob doing his exam.  Whew.

His stats:
Weight: 35 lbs (80th percentile)-up from 29 lbs and 50th percentile at 2 years.
Height: 41 inches (97th percentile)-up from 38 inches and again 97th percentile at 2 years.
Dr. Heffernan thought he was a really healthy boy and was impressed with his vocabulary and his potty training.

Things Peyton is doing at 3...(this may be boring, but I'm mostly documenting this for myself to remember).  :)
  • Talking up a storm.  He speaks in full sentences and is always coming up with new words/phrases.
  • Doing well potty training.  He wears underwear all the time besides naps/overnight when he wears a pull-up.  He still has the occasional accident.
  • Food-wise, he's actually done better with his pickiness.  Some of his favorites are: PBJ's, apples, grapes (any fruit really), corn, yogurt, cottage cheese, vanilla soy milk, oatmeal, tomatoes, Nutrigrain bars, and of course any sweets.  His favorite meal he always asks for is turkey meatloaf.  Some things he will absolutely not eat are eggs, green beans, and bacon.  He used to never try tuna fish or eat salad but now he loves both.
  • His favorite things to do are go to Grandma/Grandpa and Grammy/Papa's house; play outside; play with playdoh, color/draw, vacuum (of course), go to the park, read construction themed books, help Daddy put things together or fix things, play dates with his buddies Ethan and Hunter, he loves to run or be chased.  He is ALL boy.
  • He gets to watch a show or a movie after lunch before his nap most days.  Some days more if I have to take a shower/get ready for work while he's awake. His favorites are Caillou, Bob the Builder, Tigger and Pooh, and just recently, his new movie The Jungle Book. He also loves to watch cooking shows with Mama and Daddy.  :)
  • He is still as stubborn as ever and can be quite head strong. He knows what he wants and voices his opinion. He wants to pick out his clothes, decide what's for breakfast, etc.  Pretty standard for most toddler/preschoolers I think (hope).  We're also working on his new-found bossiness that has appeared.  :)
  • STILL sucking his thumb.  We're hoping he will stop this once he starts preschool this Fall, but we'll see.  Also, he still has his blankie as his comfort and won't go to bed without it.
  • We've started putting him into the Sunday school/daycare at church which he does well with for the most part.  Also, I've recently been taking him to 24 Hour Fitness with me a couple times a week which has been nice for me and great for him to play/socialize. Hopefully this will help with him starting preschool.
  • He can count to 15 (after that he just keeps saying 15 for a while and then says 20, ha), says all his ABC's, spells his name, and recognizes about half the alphabet.  He can name most animals and all construction equipment/vehicles.
This past year FLEW by and I'm amazed at how much he's grown/progressed.  We love him so much and look forward to this 3rd year with him!
