Today I met Jill at Washington Square for some coffee, browsing, and lots of chatting. She moved moved back to Salem from San Diego with her hub in January and we finally got a chance to meet up. With both Jill and Becky, we can go months, even years without seeing each other and once we reunite, we pick up right where we left off. They are my best friends and our relationship with one another is one-of-a-kind. We would have talked all day if we could, but I had to get home and get Peyton down for a nap. I'm hoping Becky will be able to come to Oregon soon for a visit so we can have all three of us 'cookies' back together again. I also scanned some pics of the good ol' days in college. We lived together and played basketball for four years and we really had some good times. I miss those days like crazy!! Love you so much Cooks and I'm glad I finally got one of you to move back home!! :)

Children's Museum
Today Peyton and I met Kate, Ethan, Amy, and Hunter at the Portland Children's Museum. It's really a fun place! Peyton absolutely loved all the construction/Bob the Builder exhibits. It was fun to watch him explore all the fun things. We're really bored with staying inside during this yucky, wet weather, so it was nice to get out of the house!
Ethan and Peyton driving the dump truck:
He loved this backhoe, I had to coax him forever to move on to the next thing:
This was probably his favorite exhibit. A big pit full of rubber dirt/rocks and tons of tractors/dump trucks etc.:

I'm ill...
Sometimes my job is very taxing emotionally. For those who do not know, in a nut shell, here's what I do at Emanuel Hospital:
My job title is a patient placement specialist. We work for 3 Legacy Hospitals, but are physically located on the Emanuel campus. I have a lot of different responsibilities/job duties. Any time a patient is admitted to the hospital, whether it be from the ER, from the OR, from a doctor's office, or from another hospital, I coordinate getting a bed/room for the patient. (This is for Emanuel, Good Samaritan, and Salmon Creek hospitals). The patient's diagnosis, and the physician's service/specialty all determines where the patient is assigned. Whether they can have a roommate, which protocols they will be under, which level of care, which iv/droplet precautions they will need, if they need a sitter with them, etc.
When a patient is transferred from another hospital, we are essentially on a conference call with the doctor calling from the other hospital and with one of our doctors at Emanuel. So while they are going over all the vitals, history, etc about the patient to be transferred, I listen in, taking notes, getting all the needed details in order to get a bed for the patient. This can be interesting to listen to and I learn so many new things about medicine everyday. However..........Emanuel is the main place in Oregon where any case of child abuse is sent. The ER at Emanuel has at the very least one case there a day (just that I see during my shift). It is completely HEARTBREAKING every time I see it. Recently I had a call from another hospital in Oregon wanting to transfer a young toddler in as a NAT (Non-Accidental Trauma)....I get to hear every detail, and it literally makes me ILL. I do not know how anyone can ever intentionally hurt their child, or ANY child. These kids are so innocent and defenseless. My heart breaks every time I get one of these gruesome calls where I have to sit there and cringe as I listen to all the specifics. And every single time I hang up that phone call, I pray. I pray for that child...for that family...and for our doctors, nurses, who will be caring for that sweet patient. I respect the Pediatric service here at Emanuel so much. And my heart goes out to every child who is a victim of abuse.

GFU March Madness
The GFU Women Bruins just defeated Hope in the Elite 8 58-46. They are undefeated, and still going strong. I watched the game live online and it was a great game! I'm so proud and excited for them. They now advance to the Final Four (!!!) which takes place Friday the 20th in Holland, MI. This team has had such an amazing and historic season. They were not expected to do this well this season given that they are such a young team. GFU's coach Scott Rueck who was also my coach is pretty incredible. I feel so lucky to have had such an awesome leader during my four years playing there. It's funny how even though I never played with any of these players, they still feel like family. GFU has such a close knit community, especially within the Lady Bruin family. I'll definitely be watching online on Friday. Go Bruins! 30-0!!

Amazing!
We had a photo shoot last weekend with an absolutely amazing photographer. She suggested this place called the Bishop's Close in Lake Oswego which was so beautiful. There's such color in the dead of winter at this place. Bethany posted some pictures on her blog (http://www.bethanyfphotography.blogspot.com/) Also, here's her website http://www.bethanyf.com/. She did such a beautiful job. I am so pleased!

Just don't get it
I was pulling out of my neighborhood this morning to go to work and I saw the Maid Brigade lady also pulling out. This had me thinking the entire drive into work...wondering who is hiring these people to clean their houses? Especially with this economy. Even if I had dispensable money to toss toward the Brigade, I don't think I could do it. I would end up cleaning my house before they showed up to clean my house anyway, just to save having these women (and men maybe?) of being disgusted by a dirty house, and to save me from embarrassment. I am busy/exhausted- I work full-time swing shift, have a toddler to chase after, etc etc; however, I still find the time to keep my house clean for the most part (organizing is a different story). I understand if people are physically unable to clean their house. I just can't see how people can hire someone else to clean up their filth, when they have the time/means to do it themselves. Yes, I HATE cleaning my bathrooms, hate it, but keep up with it religiously because bathrooms are just plain disgusting if unkept. But I would hate it even more if I maid (corny I know) someone else do it. This company obviously has enough clients to stay in business...who are these people?! Am I missing something here, or just too frugal to understand?
